About "Cannes"

Each city of France is marked by its own unique charm, and Cannes is no exception. This picturesque place washed by the gentle waves of the Mediterranean Sea leaves an indelible trace in the soul of every traveler. Deeply impressed by the beauty of Cannes during one of his trips, Leonid Afremov decided to perpetuate it on this marvelous abstract painting.

The city is cuddled on top of a high hill protruding into the sea. If you look at it from afar, you’ll see a group of motley buildings crowding together on a small piece of land surrounded by the endless vastness of water. Using his signature Impasto technique, Afremov create a vivid and emotional image of Cannes, with its versatile architecture, breathtaking sea views and yacht-speckled piers. We can feel the romantic spirit of the city in every little stroke of his palette knife. Although the scene is largely abstract and doesn’t bear photographic resemblance to the actual cityscape used by Leonid for inspiration, the delicate play of colors and the neat layer arrangement tell us more than any snapshots. This is a truly profound artwork that reveals new meanings each time you look at it sending you imagination on a fascinating trip down the Riviera coast.
